ABSTRACT: Ceuta Area, Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela. 3D Integrated Seismic Interpretation

Maraven S.A. is currently carrying out an aggressive 3D acquisition campaign in the Lake Maracaibo area. Data will be and has been recorded to totally cover the Maraven exploration and production acreage.

To further understand the complex tectonics of the Ceuta area a new 3D seismic interpretation has led to a revision of the structural

model. The current model envisages Late Eocene to Early Miocene Andean compressive events inverting previously emplaced synsedimentary normal growth faults downstepping to the east. The resultant inversion led to the formation of the Tertiary Misoa and Pauji formation compressive structural and stratigraphic entrapment area along the Pueblo Viejo fault. The structural configuration at the Cogollo Limestone level is different to that of the overlying Tertiary section due to the intervening Collon shales acting as a decollement medium through which compressive stresses have been absorbed.

The new interpretation has led to the development of a three well exploration project at the Cogollo Limestone level. The structural model was also developed using ray trace modeling, section balancing and reservoir maturation software to further understand the exploration potential within this mature area.
