ABSTRACT: An Interactive Stratigraphic Correlation and Petroleum Data Modeling System

Gene C. Rosenlund

The process of building a drill hole database or confirming the accuracy of commercially available databases can be frustrating and time consuming. Stratifact®, developed by GRG Corporation, is a database manager and graphics-based stratigraphic correlation tool. It provides rapid graphical review, interactive correction, and interpretation of information typical to petroleum databases.

The data are graphically viewed on a well location map, in a correlation diagram, or in cross section. The map presents drill hole locations and lease and other GIS information. Wells to be included in correlation diagrams or cross sections are selected from the map using a mouse. The correlation diagram graphically presents geologic unit correlations, lithologies, results of initial and production tests, details of well development, and geophysical logs. The well-to-well correlations are dependent on the geologic unit name. Correlations can be corrected or new interpretations added interactively.

Stratifact® is designed to run on any IBM or IBM compatible personal computer and exports files to a number of multiplatform modeling programs. The software was specifically designed for review and correction of databases, and for initial model concept development.
