Operation Database: Techniques and Results

Jay E. Leonard

The key issues in any exploration and production software application--the data and the subsequent handling of the data--are becoming increasingly well known to the petroleum computing community. With this issue in mind, a select group of representatives from a cross section of the petroleum industry has been assembled to provide an evaluation of data-base applications. The project, Operation Database, addresses the fundamental issue of any exploration application--the handling of data. Operation Database, sponsored by Geobyte and various petroleum companies, provides a forum of consistent software evaluation that spans personal computers to workstations, and simple well data to complex geographic information systems applications. The techniques of Operation Database and he most timely results will be discussed in this talk.
