Abstract: Distribution of Uranium Resources in Noncommunist World

Robert J. Meehan

A review of the currently reported distribution of uranium resources in the noncommunist countries of the world indicates that the United States, South Africa, Australia, and Canada control about 80 Previous HitpercentNext Hit of the reasonably assured resources (reserves) exploitable at a cost of $15 or less per pound ($33.33/kg) U3O8. About 80 Previous HitpercentNext Hit of the estimated additional resources (potential) at the $15 or less per pound cost are in the United States and Canada. About 60 Previous HitpercentNext Hit of the reasonably assured resources and about 70 Previous HitpercentTop of the estimated additional resources are in sandstones principally in the United States and in conglomerates in Canada and South Africa. Other important environments for these resources are vein and related deposits in metamorph c rocks primarily in Canada and Australia, disseminations in granitic rocks in South West Africa, and disseminations in black shale in Sweden.
